A magnitude-7.1 earthquake struck the Canterbury region of New Zealand in the early hours of the 4th September 2010. This event caused extensive shaking in the city of Christchurch (New Zealand’s second largest city) and surrounding regions, and land damage in liquefaction prone areas.
